Legacy Gazebo voted ‘Best Place to Nap’ on Kennesaw campus

Every year, The Sentinel asks hundreds of students from both campuses about their favorite places to eat, drink and hang out. The Sentinel’s “Best of KSU” issue encompasses students’ favorite aspects of KSU and the surrounding community. In 2017, the Legacy Gazebo was voted Best Spot to Nap by the Kennesaw campus students.

If you ever find yourself on the Kennesaw campus and in need of sleep, have no fear, because the Legacy Gazebo is the perfect spot for a quick nap.

For those who are unaware, the Legacy Gazebo is located behind the English Building and next to Willingham Hall. The gazebo itself is a wooden structure that houses a few tables and chairs. Student organizations often host events in the space, and some professors even elect to hold occasional outdoor classes there as well.

Primarily, the Legacy Gazebo is meant for relaxing. At any given time, you can see students stretched out on the grass-covered steps of the amphitheater and lounging in hammocks under the trees.

“It’s a nice place to escape the sun,” said junior English major Jon Phelps. “It’s rather cozy too.”

The steps are a perfect spot to work on homework, listen to music or snooze between classes. Unless there’s a big event going on, you can always count on being able to find somewhere to stretch out and relax.

Personally, I often find myself migrating toward the Legacy Gazebo when I have free time on campus, regardless of whether it’s for 10 minutes or two hours. I don’t often nap on campus, but when I need to unwind, I head over there for a few quiet moments and pretend I’m somewhere else.

The best part about the Legacy Gazebo is that it’s quiet. It was built to mimic an amphitheater, so while acoustics carry sound from the gazebo up the stairs, noise from anywhere else usually dies out before it can reach your ears. Sitting there, you can tune out the world and escape the stresses of college life.

“I like hanging out there because it’s peaceful, and the bees are very calming,” said sophomore English major Shae Jordan.

There are several places you can go on the Kennesaw campus to get some quiet: the library, The Green or the first floor of the Social Sciences building. But if you really need to kick back and catch some Z’s, the Legacy Gazebo is the definitive spot to catch up on some much-needed rest.
