Homecoming week: Previewing a celebration of school spirit

Kennesaw State is hosting several entertaining events from Oct. 17-22 to celebrate Homecoming Week 2022.

The week will start with the Homecoming Paint ‘n’ Sip on Monday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Carmichael Student Center. Students of all artistic abilities are invited to paint their own rendition of Scrappy the Owl.

The Marietta Campus will also be involved in the festivities with the Bonfire Bonanza taking place on the field between Norton and Howell Halls at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Free food will be provided alongside the festivities.

Also on Oct. 18, students will get the opportunity to show off their formal style at the Homecoming Dance held in the Carmichael Student Center at 7 p.m. The dance will feature a DJ, food, giveaways, photo station, neon signs and more according to the event’s page on Owl Life.

Students can take a shuttle from Kennesaw Campus to Downtown Kennesaw to celebrate Downtown Kennesaw Night on Wednesday, Oct. 19 starting at 6 p.m. Discounts will be offered to students to promote local businesses. Anyone interested can also visit the farmer’s market or participate in a variety of activities and games.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the annual Homecoming Concert will be held at the Convocation Center on Kennesaw Campus. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7.

Although this year’s performing artist has not yet been announced, performers at previous years’ Homecoming Concerts have included Earthgang in 2021, Megan Thee Stallion in 2019 and Wiz Khalifa in 2014. Be sure to keep an eye out for when tickets become available and bring a clear bag on the day of the concert.

The spotlight will be on KSU students at the Hooty Hoo’s Got Talent show on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. According to the event’s Owl Life page, teams of students will give “step, dance, and lip sync performances to show off our KSU school spirit.” Tickets to this show are available online now.

Another event to show off school spirit is the Homecoming Pep Rally on Oct. 21. The rally will be held on the Kennesaw Campus Green from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will feature free food, guest speakers and performances from KSU’s marching band and cheerleaders.

This is only a small sample of the many events taking place during the week leading up to KSU’s anticipated Homecoming football game on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. Other events that will be held include the Homecoming Kick-off Jersey Partytwo job fairs for all majors, the Homecoming Owl Cup Field Day and more. The week’s full schedule can be found on the KSU website.

Interested individuals are recommended to RSVP on an event’s Owl Life page if they plan to attend and to get their tickets early.
