Fashion Month showcases diverse global apparel trends

Fall fashion month, always held in New York, London, Milan then Paris, lasted from early September to Oct. 4 and is the month of discovering what is in, what is out and who is wearing it.

Fashion weeks give opportunities to designers to display their works, models to show off their talents and everyday people to see what they should wear in the coming seasons.

Held from Sept. 9 until Sept. 14, the New York Fashion Week schedule was jam-packed, showcasing over 100 major designers. In the fashion capital of the United States where even the civilians walking the streets are dressed to the nines, their fashion week is just as chic.

The most worn pieces according to Vogue were metallic accessories and midiskirts, back and better than ever. Retro is in: a 1950s cinched waist or a chic midiskirt is the way to go. Also encouraged were oversized fall jackets ready to rock the weather change and any outfit paired with a crescent moon-shaped handbag.

The Vogue World Show was held in Manhattan’s packing district and was electric from beginning to end. The building’s style, celebrities, music and energy carried the show which had significant success. The show presented Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Dior and many more big brands.

The biggest takeaway from NYFW is to always have a plain white tee on hand to help tie together any outfit.

London Fashion Week started shortly after on Sept. 15; London’s fashion “week” is only a five-day event, ending on Sept. 20. London has a different speed of fashion compared to New York.

The New York retro look is all ’50s fashion but London came in hot with an extreme retro look, presenting reworked regency looks. Vogue is calling this “Bridgerton Chic.” The regency look includes ruffles, loud sleeves, corsets and long slip dresses.

Celebrities spotted in London included former singer/fashion designer Victoria Beckham sitting front row at the Supriya Lele show and singer FKA Twigs attending Simone Rocha’s catwalk show as reported by Harper’s Bazaar.

The Burberry show, the most attended and talked about event from London Fashion Week, was delayed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Once the public finally got to see Riccardo Tisci’s spectacular creations, the New York Times stated that “Burberry has defined what Britain looks like to the rest of the world.” The look that he ultimately achieved throughout the show was that of the British seaside.

Milan Fashion Week was off to a quick start. Milan Fashion Week started the same day London fashion week ended, Sept. 20, and continued until Sept. 26.

Looks from Milan included big pops of color, adorable denim and thigh-high boots, a must-buy for the upcoming season.

People magazine spotted Future and Naomi Cambell at the Boss Show, Heidi Klum front row at the Moschino Show and Kim Kardashian at the Dolce and Gabbana show. Many more celebrities were seen in the streets of Milan attending multiple shows a day.

The most raved-about show from Milan Fashion week was The Prada Show. Prada came in with simplicity as they wanted to avoid “unnecessary complication,” according to a Reuters article.

The Prada collection included many gray looks, collared shirts, slim-fit pants and jumpsuits. Miuccia Prada wanted the collection to be raw and modest according to Reuters. Many celebrity cameos represented the designer’s simple yet beautiful collection.

Last but not least is Paris Fashion Week. Paris is a beautiful place and the fashion there is elegant. Fashion Week in Paris began on Sept. 26 and went on until Oct. 4.

The exciting brands seen were Valentino, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Ye by Kanye West and many more amazing, talented brands showing fall collections.

The month of fashion is a chance to be creative, whether it is a designer presenting art, a model bringing the art alive or an ordinary person taking in the art and making their own pieces. Fashion is freedom all can enjoy, and fashion week shows that there are no limits.
