Your Guide to Unique Clubs on Campus

Finding a group that fits your personality is an essential part of the college experience. There is the more traditional route that you can take such as joining a fraternity or sorority, but for those with more unique interests, KSU has a club for you.

The Emergency Student Response Team Club is a club that was established to enable students to develop emotional and physical skills necessary in the event of an emergency or disaster. ESRT teaches life saving skills. The skills learned can
also appeal to a future employer.

“Whether a student is applying to teach in a public school or to work as an executive in a high rise office building, having emergency and disaster response skills on your résumé may be the key differentiator between you and another job candidate.” Kathy A. Lynn, Department of First Year Programs, said.

Another fun and active group that appeals to specific interests is the Otaku Club.
They bring Japanese Popular Culture to the KSU Campus.

If you are looking for activities involving anime, games, music and more then this club might interest you.

The club meets Thursdays and at other club related events. “Otaku is a diverse, lively and inclusive group. Everyone is welcome to join the club. In fact, the more the merrier,” Dr. Kathryn T. Farley, Instructor, Department of Theatre, Performance Studies & Dance said.

A club that may appeal to your darker said would be the KSU Horror Club. This club was created to attract fans that enjoy the horror genre.
It also provides a medium for members to gain further understanding of the general information regarding horror.

“Essentially what the Horror Club consists of are film screening of horror films ranging from mainstream to cult/underground status,” Teresa Alvarez, Adjunct Professor of Communications and Club Advisor said.

Looking for a club where relaxation is key? The KSU’s Hammocking Club is for you. The club’s goal is to promote outdoor involvement as well as a social environment for students to interact with each other. Making relaxation a priority.

Manny Savas, President of the KSU Hammocking Club said, “Some of the most unique and outstanding traits our club is that it reaches out to such a wide appeal of the students body on campus.

Whenever people first hear about the club the think it is a joke, because it is so simple, but it is meant to be a simplistic club where anyone who has an interest in hammocking can come together and meet up”.
If you don’t find these clubs interesting there are plenty more to choose from. You can go to the KSU clubs website and search the club directory for an assortment of clubs. Everyone can find something they would be interested in being a part of, so get out of your comfort zone and try a new club today!
