Where to get Caffeinated at KSU

It’s early. You’re tired. You have a test coming up soon and only have another hour or so to cram for it. The catch: mustering up the energy to study. You need caffeine quick.

Don’t fret; whether you’re trying to survive the commute to campus or succeed at that dreaded final exam, there are several locations around KSU to get your caffeine fix. To compare prices between each place, each location will be compared by the price of a basic coffee and a mocha.

Starting out in the middle of the campus is PJ’s Coffee, nestled across from Chick-fil-A in the Carmichael Student Center. Due to its convenient location, it’s a popular place on campus for those looking to satisfy their energetic needs. PJ’s largest coffee costs $2.25, while its large mocha costs $4.35. If you’re looking for something to snack on with your beverage, they offer pastries such as muffins and croissants.

In the Social Sciences Building’s first floor resides the Jazzman’s Café & Bakery. A large coffee costs $2.09, while a large mocha costs $4.19. Jazzman’s has several coffee pots stationed around its counter, which gives customers a wide variety of flavors to choose. “Jazzman’s coffee always makes me jittery, but it’s bitter,” remarks Heather Mitzel, a senior majoring in Public Relations. “But I’d rather have strong, bitter coffee than watered down coffee.” Jazzman’s also offers several pastries, however most are catered for sweet-tooths: cookies, brownies, and danishes.

Also residing in the Carmichael Student Center and the Social Sciences Building , sits a coffee machine for those with a somewhat tighter budget. For $1, you can choose any coffee item from black coffee to an American, which is espresso and hot water. The machine only offers 8oz cup sizes.

If you’re a commuter, the Shell gas station located on the corner of Frey Road and Chastain Road also serves coffee to those on a budget. Large cups are $1.49, and the customers can choose between coffee or a flavored Cappuccino.

Also appealing to commuters, given its close proximity to the campus, is the Starbucks located off of Busbee Road intersecting Chastain Road. There you can purchase a large coffee for $2.25 and a large mocha is $4.35. However, some students like to branch out even further for their coffee needs.

“I go to Cool Beans when I’m not near campus. I go there because of the atmosphere.  It has a very independent coffee roaster’s feel,” says senior Lon Cross, a History Education major. Cool Beans is located in Marietta, just west of the Historic Marietta Square.
A large cup of coffee is priced at a flat $2, while the large mocha will cost you $4.

Whether you like to indulge in an espresso drink or prefer your coffee black, there are numerous ways
to acquire the energy boost you need.
