Alabama Shakes: Groovy, Bluesy, Soulful Brilliance

Alabama Shakes are releasing their first EP titled Boys & Girls (ATO Records) on April 10, 2012.

Alabama Shakes are one of those wonderfully rare and truly great bands that deserve a permanent home in your music library.

To be honest, all 11 tracks from their debut album sound like the pure classics that everyone knows and the tunes that aging music fans have had in their stacks of dusty vinyl for decades.

Although they are quite new to the music scene, listeners and critics can’t help but compare lead singer, Brittany Howard, to greats like Janice Joplin or Aretha Franklin. Howard is gifted with a raw power voice that carries song quality to a stratospheric level, a voice that makes music to seriously get excited about.

This band is on the brink of world domination and they are still in their infancy. They were invited to headline at Bonnaroo, one of the largest music festivals in the world, and played two songs on “Conan” this year even before their album came out.

The hype around this band is no joke.

This band is good, really good. The kind of “good” that your kids and grandkids are going to grow up listening to like we grew up listening to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Alabama Shakes are going to be the next big act in music and they are too talented to pass on or place on your “To-Do List”.

The music lovers of this generation have been waiting for that one special band to arrive and Alabama Shakes are finally here.

Still skeptical? Check out their live performance at KEXP studios and listen to “Hold On”. If that song doesn’t get you wanting to dance and/or run out and buy Boys & Girls, check your speakers because they are probably broken.
