Kennesaw State’s baseball team played its opening set of games over the weekend, defeating West Virginia University 5-3 on Friday, Feb.15, before winning 9-2 against the University of Illinois at Chicago and falling short 9-8 to Richmond University on Saturday.

As Mike Sansing enters his 28th season as Kennesaw State’s head baseball coach, the Owls will be seeking consistency after last season’s wild ride of ups and downs.

The hard-nosed catcher has been a key component in Mike Sansing’s teams over the years, winning all-conference second team honors twice and being a workhorse when not injured. This season, he led the team in slugging percentage and won a conference player of the week honor.

The baseball team improved to 9-3 in conference play this past week, beating Lipscomb 5-1 and 8-6 after dropping one game to the Bisons 6-5.

The baseball team secured a series sweep against North Florida over the weekend, extending its winning streak to five games during the series that began at Stillwell Stadium on Friday, April 13.

The Owls dominated in their series against Grambling State in which they won each game by 10 runs or more.

The baseball team played four games in the past week, losing to Georgia before winning one out of three games against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Owls went 0-2 in their series against Mercer and 2-1 in their series against Samford over the weekend.

The KSU baseball team improved its record to .500 with three wins against Evansville, two of which were dramatic walk-offs, and a loss to Georgia.
