Owls welcomed with Neon Glow Takeover in Student Center

Kennesaw Activities Board, along with seventeen other school organizations, concluded the annual Weeks of Welcome on Aug. 19 with an epic Neon Glow Student Center Takeover in the Carmichael Student Center.

Each year, KSU hosts a variety of events primed towards getting new and returning students involved in campus life. The Neon Glow Student Center Takeover was one of the biggest events of the week. This event celebrated the end of a successful first week of school.

Countless students enjoyed the many activities held at the event such as glow-in-the-dark bowling and mini golf, trivia competitions, escape rooms, arcade games and more. Free drinks and snacks like popcorn and cotton candy were also provided. Students everywhere were smiling, taking pictures, and celebrating the start of another great semester on campus.

KSU Greek Life also hosted the event and sororities and fraternities came out to spread awareness about their organizations to new and returning students.

“Our sorority gets involved with many of the student events around campus as well as volunteering with local groups and organizations,” Sigma Gamma Rhomember Madi Kendrick said, “We wanted to come out here and show the students who we are and what we do.”

“Week of Welcome is one of the heaviest times of the year for student engagement alongside Homecoming and Halloween.” Program Coordinator over student engagement Jenna Rehm stated.

A few of the seventeen other student organizations that hosted this event were KSU FLIGHT, Owl Radio and KSU Athletics. These groups held information booths in the student center and gave out free items, held games, and talked to students about their department.

“News of events like this are primarily spread through social media and word of mouth,” said Rehm when asked how student engagement is initiated. Kennesaw Activities Board and KSU FLIGHT typically post on their social media platforms about upcoming events as well as other student engagement programs and social media is primarily how students learn of school-wide events.

Each year, Kennesaw Activities Board and many other student organizations host a plethora of entertaining events all through the year to ensure that students are having fun alongside their studies. KSU’s Weeks of Welcome are a fun and exciting way to get students more involved around campus for these events and to boost the morale of the new students as well.
