Every year, The Sentinel asks hundreds of students from both campuses about their favorite places to eat, drink and hang out. The Sentinel’s “Best of KSU” issue encompasses students’ favorite aspects of KSU and the surrounding community. In 2017, Chandler Burks was voted Best Male Athlete by the Marietta campus students.
Georgia native and Kennesaw State quarterback Chandler Burks has been named the Best Male Athlete by the Marietta campus. This South Paulding High School alumnus made history when he became the first official football recruit to sign with the Kennesaw State football program back in 2014.
Since then, Burks has made a name for himself, racking up 22 touchdowns during the 2016-17 football season — 13 through the air and nine on the ground. Leading the Owls to an 8-3 record in his redshirt sophomore season, Burks was a crucial factor in improving KSU’s 6-5 record this previous season.
Burks played his best game of the season against Presbyterian College when he threw for 169 yards on 6/10 attempts, connecting for three touchdowns.
He isn’t the stereotypical jock, though. This past fall, Burks was named to the Big South’s All-Academic Team. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
“This award isn’t just for me, it’s for the whole Kennesaw State football family,” Burks said. “KSU has a great fan base and the support here is unbelievable. I wouldn’t be in this position without my Lord and Savior, my family, my coaches and my teammates.”
With this winning mindset on the field and in the classroom, Owl Nation is in good hands heading into the 2017-18 football season. Congratulations Chandler Burks for being named the Best Male Athlete!
