Cross-Country competes in NCAA South Regionals

Both of Kennesaw State’s cross-country teams competed at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida, for the NCAA South Regionals on Friday, Nov. 11.

KSU sent a total of eight qualifiers, with juniors Paul Schupp and Jordan Hand representing the men’s team.

For the women’s team, freshmen Saidah Grant, Lexi Froh and Kaitlin Franklin all got a taste of postseason competition along with sophomores Bonnie McKinnon and Caitlyn Farrell and senior Kidan Kidane.

The NCAA South Regionals consisted of 32 teams in the women’s field, with four schools sending incomplete teams of 11 athletes. The men’s field consisted of 24 teams, and seven schools sent incomplete teams comprised of 14 athletes.

Kidane was the women’s top finisher in the 6K as she ran her final race with KSU, placing 72nd and capping a collegiate career that saw her finish in the top 10 of 21 events. Kidane led the women’s team this season and has been one of the top competitors in the conference where she was an ASUN All-Conference First Team honoree.

As for the other Owls on the women’s team representing KSU:

  • Farrell finished 128th.
  • Froh in 129th.
  • Grant at 177th.
  • Franklin at 199th.
  • McKinnon at 201st.

The women’s team as a whole finished in 26th place.

When it came time for the men to compete in the 10K, Schupp finished in 99th place overall, marking his sixth consecutive race finishing as KSU’s top performer in the men’s division.

Hand, the other representative for KSU, completed the day with a 136th-place finish, finishing his season with a top 33 mark in four of six meets this season.
