Camp Blood is a Halloween site with a unique atmosphere. Instead of standing in a long line in a parking lot for hours, you take a card and hang out until your group’s letter is called, enjoying the bonfire, the carnival games, the concession stand, or the “redneck fortune teller.”

You first enter Mentalbrook Estates, the typical asylum theme with a few twists. The haunted house employs great exploitation of claustrophobia and wacky angles in the architecture to make you feel anxious and confused as you walk, distracting you long enough for the convincing actors to jump at you from every shadow. The sharp corners, bridges, stairs, and hills made it feel like you were twisting and turning into a huge place. Most haunted houses feel very flat, but this felt more like a haunted world.

You then exit and go into Camp Blood, which is set up in the woods itself. Actors jump out from the forest, and the outdoor darkness keeps you on your toes.

There is also the Zombie Shoot, which is a hayride through a separate part of the woods, and you can shoot actors with paintball guns and experience a few more thrills along the way.

Unfortunately, this unique haunted house is quite a trek for KSU students. It would take over an hour to get there, but it is definitely worth the carpool to experience this thrilling adventure through the woods of Camp Blood.
