A courtyard with a concession stand and a screening of old horror films keeps people entertained as they wait one, two, and sometimes even three hours on busy weekends to tour 13 Stories Haunted House. The 54,000-square-foot building does not have several floors, despite the name, but the unique part of this haunt is in the fact that you have the option to go through with weapons.

They are running special deals on Halloween weekend, but, for an upcharge of $20, you can buy the Black Ops Pass, which allows you to go through the haunted house with an M4 laser assault rifle that you can use to “shoot” the actors inside. This creates a specific adrenaline rush that is unmatched by its rivals. While in most haunted houses the actors seem to stay in their assigned rooms, these zombies could come back to life and chase after you, and your team would have to shoot them down again.

While this was definitely a fun experience, it was not the scariest haunted house, and I cannot imagine that it would have been nearly as exciting without the weapons, which require the upcharge. The actors chased after you, but there were parts of the haunt that felt like there could have been way more people waiting in the darkness to scare you, and it left us wanting more.

Lastly, you have the option to add “Sacrifice” to the list, an 18-and-up experience like no other. After signing a waiver and being blindfolded, prepare yourself for whatever the dark has in store for you.

Though this haunt is an hour away from KSU, I recommend you carpool with a group of friends and visit 13 Stories, as long as some in the group are up for the challenge of the Black Ops Pass. The line may be long, but the haunt is fun and worth the wait and the money.
