A 24/7 Library is Not Practical

Nicholas Kerr, Contributor

Right now students can only access the library from 7:30 am to midnight, but there are some students who want that the library to be open for 24 hours. They want the library to open all the time because they feel it will allow them to have more access to the resources that the library contains. But I believe that opening the library for 24 hours would not be a good idea because of all the things that would have to be done.

The logistics of the library being open for 24 hours is just not plausible because of the resources that would be needed to keep the library’s operations up and running. Not only would the school have to hire more staff would also have to pay for the utilities that would be used during the news hours. If the school were to open the library for 24 hours then the cost that the university would take on would lead to an increase in our tuition.

The library being open for 24 hours is unnecessary in the fact that it just is not practical. I’m sure there are people who are up at two o’clock in the morning studying but the amount of students that would actually use the library at that time is probably numbered in the tens. So opening the library for about 15 students and then raising the tuition of all is a cost that would but good for a few and unnecessary for many.
