“Synergy” Returns for a Fifth Year at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

“Synergy”, a presentation of the art disciplines at KSU, returned to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on March 28.

Celebrating five years at the CEPAC, “Synergy”, which is apart of CEPAC’s ARTSBRIDGE programming, returned with a fun new line up for its middle-high school aged audience.

ARTSBRIDGE is the education program that works with everyone from local to international arts organizations to provide quality education programs for students and teachers throughout North Georgia.

The event geared to engage young people, through music, theatrics, dance and visual art, allowed students from KSU’s
own College of the Arts to display their talents.

The program began with a colorful slideshow of various artworks from KSU art majors, followed by a video introduction from College of the Arts Dean, Joseph Meeks, who highlighted the art disciplines that would be showcased in the following presentation.

“It was great. It’s one of the few times the College of the Arts can put on a performance featuring all of the different art areas,” said junior Robert Boone, member of the music ensemble.

As the lights lowered, the sounds from the orchestra prepared students for the First Act, “Paquita”, a unique dance piece performed by the KSU dance company.

Next, the orchestra performed French composer’s, Maurice Ravel, “Bolero 1928”, considered to be Ravel’s most famous musical composition.

The Music Theater Ensemble and KSU Tellers follow with excerpts from “Secret Garden” and “Son of the Land”.  Performing “Hm! hm! hm! hm!”, a selection from Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute”, the Opera Theatre quintet intrigued the spectators with its vibrant costumes and saintly voices.

From the musical comedy, “You’re a good man, Charlie Brown”, a member of the Acting Company amused the audience in his portrayal of Snoopy in a selection from the play titled, “Snoopy Fights the Red Baron”.

Wrapping up the show, another enchanting dance sequence featured the KSU Dance Company. The sequence, “Rhizome”, was choreographed by Pulinkala and highlighted the litheness and ingenuity of the arts program.

Following the program, students went to a meet and greet with performers in the lobby of the CEPAC.

“I thought it was an awesome experience and great to be around artistic people. It was amazing to dance on that stage,” said sophomore Kristen Archer, member of the dance company.

“Synergy” not only provides entertainment but it educates students in an appreciation for the arts.
