KSU Housing holds Annual Raddest Rooms Contest

KSU Housing offered an event for all students with a creative side. On February 1, the latest event known as the “Raddest Room Contest” took place.

Morgan Hooper, KSU Housing’s Marketing Coordinator and Customer Service Specialist, hosted the event through the KSU Housing’s Facebook page.

Throughout the course of the contest, 35 students submitted pictures of their rooms. From a Harry Potter quote to Christmas lights, several different ideas were used to decorate the rooms.

The contest lasted through March 15. The rules were simple – the rooms with the most likes on the Facebook page won. KSU Housing decided to pick one winner from each “division” within the campus’ dorm rooms, which would then proceed into the next round.

After an intense month and a half of Facebook users dishing out “likes” left and right, the four winners were announced.

University Village winner: Jessica Kaplan.

University Village Suites winner: Jessica Kelley.

KSU Place winner: Ashli Fletcher.

University Place winner: Mercedes Anderson.

Finalists won $100 for their rooms. Voting then reopened with the same rules as before; the finalist with the most likes would become the grand prize winner.

On March 23, Ashli Fletcher of KSU Place was declared the winner.

Fletcher received $200 for her dorm room, walking away from the Raddest Rooms Contest with $300 overall.

The four finalists each gave a quick tip on how to effectively style up your dorm room.

“It’s all about hand-making things. I made my globe out of scrapbook paper,” said Fletcher. “I also made an ‘A’ for Ashli and wrapped it in yarn, color of choice!”

“Shop at T.J. Maxx and FYE for wall decals,” Kaplan suggested. Hooper had a tip to share on decorating your room for cheap, “Get involved with Pinterest. It gives you a lot of good ideas. How to make things, how to make curtains, how to decorate your room on a low-cost budget.”

If you didn’t make it for the competition this year, don’t worry. “Raddest Rooms” has become an annual event, so you can submit your room next year.
