The heartbreak continued on Wednesday night for Kennesaw State football as it lost a tight 24-21 matchup against Missouri State at Robert W. Plaster Stadium.
Tied at 21 with two minutes remaining and the Owls out of timeouts, the Bears decided to kneel the clock out and attempt a field goal as time expired.
Yousef Obeid knocked the chip shot right through and sealed the victory for Mo State.
Both offenses took a long time to get anything going in this one. The Bears marched down the field on their opening possession but were held to no points after an incomplete pass on fourth down.
After a scoreless first, Mo State put together a couple of drives which resulted in field goals and took a 6-0 lead which it kept for most of the half.
It took exactly 29 minutes for KSU to wake up on offense.
In just 40 seconds, the Owls ran a perfectly executed six-play and 74 yard drive which resulted in Rickie Collins throwing a touchdown pass to Dylan Gary as time expired in the first half to put KSU in front 7-6.
The Owls were driving again to start the second half, but Collins was stuffed on fourth down and the Bears took over on offense. A few plays later, Henry Belin IV found a wide open Isaiah Myers in the back of the end zone.
KSU answered on its next possession, and Collins took it in himself from nine yards out and tied the game at 14.
To begin the fourth quarter, the Owls were looking to get their first lead since it was 7-6, and went on a 16-play drive which resulted in kicker Daniel Kinney missing a field goal by mere inches as it sailed directly over the right upright.
Both teams got in the end zone once more. Myers caught his second touchdown of the night for Mo State and KSU answered with a Boogie Woods III run from a yard out.
Belin IV, starting in the place of regular starting quarterback Skyler Locklear, was efficient for the Bears, finishing with exactly 300 yards and completing 28 of 39 attempts.
Gary had a big night for the Owls, totaling 135 yards on 10 receptions. Myers continued his excellent season, and he also finished with 135 yards.
Penalties continued to be a struggle for KSU on Wednesday. After committing 15 penalties against Jacksonville State last Wednesday, the Owls committed 11 more for 95 yards.
KSU falls to 1-5 overall with the loss, and 0-2 in conference play. It will return home next Thursday to take on Liberty.
