The wild cheers and chants from the crowd in the stands filled the Wellness Center gym on the evening of March 22 as KSU’s Greek Week festivities came to a close with a dance showcase featuring all 21 of KSU’s Greek organizations.
They were divided into four random teams, as they performed and entertained their peers and judges to gain enough points to become the Greek Week champions.
An annual tradition, Greek Week is a 4-day period during the spring semester designed for members of fraternities and sororities to come together for food, fun, laughs and bonding amongst their follow Greek Life members.
Keeping with the Greek Life tradition of giving back to the community, the Feed the Future canned food drive was run in accompaniment with the Greek Week festivities. Members of Greek Life were asked to bring various perishable food items to donate to Feed America, while also gaining their team points toward their overall victory.
On the evening of March 19th, Greek Week’s kickoff event was highlighted with a message from Campuspeak’s Dr. Lori Hart, who spoke about Greek Life, and how to make it great on your campus. She also spoke about avoiding the negative stereotypes and behaviors that are sometimes associated with fraternity and sorority life.
Dr. Hart spoke about not only having a closer bond with your brothers and sisters in your respective organizations, but having those bonds with people that are a part of Greek Life on your campus.
The Greek God/Goddess pageant was held on March 20th in the Student Center cafeteria.
One person of each gender from the individual Greek chapter was eligible to enter the competition. The competition consisted of an introduction round with their Greek letters, a superhero attire round, similar to a swimsuit or eveningwear attire round and the standard question and answer round.

The Greek Olympics and picnic highlighted the afternoon of day 3, which included a water balloon toss, tug-o-war, and relay, chariot and three-legged races, which all toke place on
the campus green.
Later that evening, the athletic events continued with a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament held in the Wellness and Recreation Center Gym, the site of the week’s closing festivities.
As the sounds of Young Jeezy, LMFAO, and Cyndi Lauper pumped throughout the gymnasium, chants and cheers were at an all time high in support of each performing members routines on the dance floor.
Of course, the showcase was not without amusing moments, as members of Delta Tau Delta wore Daisy Duke style cutoff shorts and white t-shirts for their showcase routine.
After tallying the points for the past four days, the members of Team Ninja Turtles (Gamma Phi Beta, Theta Chi, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Alpha Phi Alpha) were declared the overall winners of Greek Week.
“I would definitely encourage those thinking about joining a fraternity or sorority to see something like this to see how much fun we have together,” said Senior Heather Quinn, a member of Delta Sigma Theta.
Junior Kristen Bostock, Public Relations director for Phi Mu, says “Greek Week brings us all closer together in a way that we normally couldn’t do on our own.”
Bostock also credits the recent events of #SaveRichard as a catalyst for strengthing the Greek Life bonds, and Greek Week just made those bonds even tighter than before.
