In preparation for Thursday night’s football game against West Georgia, Sentinel sports writer Michael Gonzalez spoke with West Georgia Sports Information Director Jared Boggus about the upcoming matchup.
Michael Gonzalez: West Georgia is coming off a 24-10 loss against Chattanooga. What do the Wolves need to do to bounce back to get the win over Kennesaw State?
Jared Boggus: Offensively: Establish the run. We were second and long all night because we didn’t run effectively on first down. Killed our third down percentage. Defense conversely has to get off the field on third down. Chatt was 10-of-17 on third downs.
MG: Heading into their second game of the season, what are the expectations for West Georgia for the rest of the season?
JB: The expectation is always high at UWG, but with the transition and roster turnover, we know it is an uphill climb.
MG: Who are some key impact players on West Georgia that Kennesaw State fans and players should keep an eye on heading into Thursday’s game?
JB: On offense, TJ Lockley is a veteran receiver. The offense also likes to utilize tight ends. Josh Schuchts and Aidan Sefa are threats in the pass game. Defense: Chidu Bekee was impressive in the opener, as was Elijah Barnes.
MG: What are West Georgia’s strengths on each side of the ball, and how do you expect those strengths to come into play against Kennesaw State?
JB: Defense: Secondary has experience. Offense: Tough to say. We weren’t very successful on offense last week.
MG: Kennesaw State will be playing their first game of the season against a team who already has a game under their belt. If any, how much of an advantage do you think that gives West Georgia?
JB: None. KSU has a big size advantage and that’s a bigger storyline than a game under the belt of UWG.
MG: What is your predicted outcome for the game, and what do you think will be the deciding factor of Thursday’s game?
JB: I think the size up front is the biggest difference. I don’t want to make a prediction, but I think that will decide the outcome.
