Three fashion words can say a lot about a person and can even reveal to you their personality.
Finding your three fashion words is the concept of finding out what draws a person to their style and can help you understand each individuals uniqueness. To figure out your words, you have to pick three words that describe your current or ideal style.
For example, someone who likes to wear denim, sneakers and funky patterns could describe themselves as classic, comfortable and eclectic.
As you can see, there are various aspects that come into play when determining your three fashion words.
Pinterest is a fantastic way to figure out your style, decide what clothes to get rid of or look for new additions. Whether it’s to match your vibe, the season or simply the weather, Pinterest is a great source to look for fashion ideas.
Students on campus always have such diversity in clothing aesthetics, so I talked to a few to ask about their three fashion words.
Modern, Colorful and Flowy

Samy Ibarra, a sophomore, says that her three fashion words are modern, colorful and flowy. Her style is dependent on her mood, energy level and how she feels on that specific day. For Ibarra, choosing outfits is like choosing an alter-ego which gives her the freedom to switch up her style.
Thrifting is fun for Ibarra, especially when she finds something Y2K. Thrifting is a good way to find clothing that aligns with your three words because there are many unique options.
Ibarra typically takes her aesthetic inspiration from the Olsen twins of the 1990s hit-show “Full House.” Anything Ibarra finds thrifting or from the 1990’s era that matches her fashion words, is usually a yes from her.
A lot of Y2K looks stem from music, movies and TV shows. At the time of interview, Ibarra is wearing a Snoop Dogg shirt. This is an example of the connections between the music industry and fashion pop of the 2000’s.
Simple, Comfortable and Accessible

Alena Robinson, sophomore, describes her three fashion words as simple, comfortable and accessible. She finds her inspiration from Pinterest.
Robinson is pictured wearing a Seattle sweater with leggings and crocs. Pinterest has so many looks like this one. No matter the day or the occasion, Pinterest is sure to be any girl’s best friend!
Dark, Emo, 2000s

Kevin Ralph, junior, chooses his style based on the early 2000’s. He usually goes for scene-core as he describes it. His three fashion words are dark, emo, 2000s.
He takes inspiration from the TV show “Jersey Shore” and makes it his very own.
His go to store is Hot Topic, where he not only finds clothing, but also accessories.
He is pictured wearing a skull shirt with a chain hanging from his jeans along with a studded bracelet in checkered patterns. He also spends his time going to thrift stores.
Fashion Fury
When finding your three special fashion words, it is most important to think about what feels right and what looks best on you. These words you picked to describe yourself should influence you when buying clothes, putting an outfit together and cleaning out your closet.
Finding your words can be tricky, so try opening your closet and seeing what is inside. You would be surprised how fast your three fashion words will come to you when you take a good look at what you have.
Season’s Cleanings
Cleaning out your closet can be a difficult process, especially when realizing you have to throw some shirts out that you forgot you had, or discovering that your favorite shirt no longer fits you anymore.
Something that can be even harder is deciding what can replace all these things in your closet. You have to think about what your favorite colors are, what interests you and what looks good on you.
Dashing Designs
Putting together an outfit is so much fun when you know the look you are going for. Some days you might prefer light colors rather than dark colors and vise versa.
Another aspect to consider would be patterns and design. Maybe you would prefer having tie-dye instead of something lacey. Having an idea of what your three fashion words are can make a huge difference for your outfit and even your mood for the day.
Being YOUnique
When it comes to the new you, or even the current you, choosing your three fashion words is so much fun because it’s all about YOU!
Laying out your outfit in advance will be less stressful and saves time when you know what you are looking for. Don’t think too much about it and just take a look in the mirror.
You would be surprised at how much more confident you could be when you align the clothes in your closet with your fashion words.
