Kennesaw State athletic director Milton Overton announced on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, that former associate coach Chris Cahill had been appointed as the Owls’ head coach for women’s soccer.
Cahill will continue to carry the legacy established by former head coach Benji Walton in KSU women’s soccer.
After Cahill graduated from Georgia Southern University, he worked his first job at the University of Evansville as an assistant. Before that, he was a volunteer assistant at Auburn. Afterward, he spent 10 years at Middle Tennessee State University as an associate head coach.
Coach Cahill learned a lot through his past experiences while working under other coaches.
“I was lucky enough to gain experience on everything from the tactical side to management side to knowing when to have fun and knowing when to turn the screws kind of a little bit more,” Cahill said. “But also like the attention to detail, I learned more in that time there with that group.”
Cahill also had the pleasure of working under Auburn’s head coach Karen Hoppa.
“I was super lucky to work with some pretty experienced people so when I was at Auburn, she’s just crossed 350 wins as a head coach so tons of experience through her,” Cahill said.
Cahill highlighted the support he’s received from the athletic administration and expressed his optimism for the Owls’ success this upcoming season.
“I’ve got a good staff, great support around me, and administration’s been awesome,” Cahill shared. “I love the team and think they’re a good and growing group; Everything about it has been on par with what I expected.”
Cahill looks forward to having the opportunity to cultivate a renewed culture and identity as the Owls strive to uphold the higher, prestigious standards of competing in Conference USA.
“I’m looking to build an identity of Georgia,” Cahill said. “Can we continue to build off the Georgia club and high school scene and build an identity that keeps us as one of the top four or five programs in Conference USA? As we move into the new conference, can, we find some footing?”
The Owls head coach hopes to overcome adversity and challenges as they start the season 1-6-1.
“We’ve had a lot of extreme highs and extreme lows and we’ve got to commit to being a little bit more consistent in what we’re doing,” Cahill said. “So can we be committed to the attack, can we be committed to defending, can we be committed to each other a bit more?”
