What Billie Eilish was made for: An EGOT

With a second Oscar Award at 22 years old, Billie Eilish is on the fast track to becoming the youngest EGOT winner.

With numerous wins and millions of listeners all over the world, Billie Eilish has built a legacy for herself like no other artist.

From the beginning of her career, Eilish has taken the music industry by storm. The world quickly launched Eilish into stardom exceeding all expectations with her first single “Ocean Eyes.” The song quickly went viral online and went on to become triple platinum in the United States.

In 2019, at only 18 years old, her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” won five Grammy Awards in all major categories along with being awarded Best New Artist.

Two years after her Grammys sweep, the artist won her first Oscar Award for Best Original Song with “No Time to Die.” Eilish’s discography is known all over the world for her painfully raw lyrics and unique musical style.

This year she continues to break records. Following her win for Best Original Song with “What Was I Made For?” at the 2024 Academy Awards, Eilish and her brother, Finneas, became the youngest artists in history to win two Oscars.

The song, originally written for the “Barbie” movie, proved that she is an integral artist of the new generation as the song resonated with millions across the world.

With her second Academy Award win at just 22 years old, the EGOT status does not seem very far for Eilish. A highly regarded status in the music industry, the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), is a title held by few, including artists such as Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Elton John and more.

The current youngest EGOT winner is Robert Lopez who received two Oscars for “Frozen” in 2014 as his final award to complete the infamous challenge. He was an EGOT winner at 39, leaving 17 years between him and Eilish for her to become the next youngest EGOT winner.

As the attention builds on her striking songwriting, a career in music in many more film and television productions is likely ahead of her. With Eilish dipping her toes into all areas of music and film, she could become the youngest person to obtain EGOT status.

With over 65 million listeners on Spotify and her standing as a highly-rated artist, Eilish continues to prove she is an unforgettable figure in the music industry. Her artistry goes on to be a sought-after talent as her music impacts fans and music lovers all over the world. She continues to break records while reinventing her sound with every project she embarks on.

Eilish’s third highly anticipated album is expected to be released this year following an Instagram post saying “My album is mastered.”
