The Department of Public Safety & University Police releases 2023 annual report

The Department of Public Safety & University Police released the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which details crime across both campuses and provides safety resources for students, faculty and staff.

The report’s 29-page preface included information about campus police, on-campus resources and tips for safety procedures. The crime statistic table begins on page 55. The data provides information for the last three years, whereas data for 2023 has not yet been released.

Kennesaw has reported any known offenses, violations and acts of violence between both campuses. 

The highest reported offense was burglary with five reported. There was one report for motor vehicle theft, which has decreased from 2021 with four reported. Rape was reported eight times; which is a decrease from the previous year by one report. Fondling has been reported four times, which is a decrease from the previous year. 

There were no reports of murder and non-negligent homicide, manslaughter by negligence, incest, statutory rape, aggravated assault or arson.

Of the total of 64 arrests made in Kennesaw, the majority were due to drug violations with 45 arrests. There were 24 liquor law violations and six weapons violations. 

Violence against women, listed as domestic and dating violence, has declined from last year, while stalking has increased from four reported in 2021 to 10 in 2022.

The Marietta campus had a total of five offenses which included rape and burglary. Ten arrests were made under liquor, drug and weapons violations. Under violence against women, one report was made under dating violence, while three were reported for stalking.

No hate crimes were reported for both campuses.

Kennesaw’s total amount of damages caused by fire in student housing totaled approximately $13,318 due to stove and oven fires. Marietta campus had two reported stove fires that didn’t cause any damage.

Under The Clery Act, Kennesaw State University Department of Public Safety and University Police is required to disclose information regarding crime on campus. The Department of Public Safety and University Police are required to retain these records for at least seven years.

Students, faculty and staff have access to an app called LiveSafe which makes it easier to stay in contact with KSU police in case of an emergency. There is even a feature called SafeWalk, where you can virtually walk with friends in real time to reach your destination safely.
