The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team collected its first home win of the season against the Life University Running Eagles with a score of 62-45 on Friday, Nov. 10 at the Convocation Center.
After falling short in their first game of the season against Vanderbilt, the Owls made it their mission to secure its next win against Life University.
The Owls teamed up to accumulate 62 points, 40 rebounds and 12 assists.
Leading the team of 12 points was junior Guard Keyarah Berry, who set the tone for the start of the game. Berry scored a total of eight points in the first quarter.
Nine rebounds from Forward/Center Kyndall Golden and five rebounds from Guard Lee Lee Willis led the team toward its success.
The Owls had a rocky start to the game, trailing behind the Running Eagles 2-5 from two layups and a free throw. Brionna Sims led the LU team with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Tied initially at 9-9, the Running Eagles could not withstand the Owls once they took over, resulting in a score of 18-13 by the end of the first quarter.
With seven fouls, 15 misses and five travels, the Running Eagles couldn’t make much of a redemption against the Owls in the second quarter.
The first three back-to-back points were scored by Berry, Golden and sophomore Guard Laura Toffali, who scored seven points throughout the game.
The Owls were up 31-19 in the second quarter with 2:01 minutes left on the clock and scored five back-to-back points with a resulting score of 37-19.
In the third quarter, the Owls managed to rise from the Running Eagles by 15 points, with a beginning score of 39-19 to an ending score of 54-30. It began with three back-to-back layup points from Berry, Willis and Prencis Harden.
While the fourth quarter had been a little slower on the end of both teams, the Owls scored nine more points to win the game—six of which junior Guard Morgan Dillard scored. Dillard shot the third-highest amount of (10) points in the game, along with five rebounds to help lead the Owls.
However, the Running Eagles’ impressive 15 points scored in the final quarter wasn’t enough to catch up to the Owls, with a concluding score of 62-45.
The KSU Owls will play at home on Nov. 25 against Florida Atlantic.
