Owls win silver at women’s cross-country ASUN Championship

With a second-place victory, the Owls put up a strong fight in the ASUN cross-country Championship.

The Kennesaw State women’s cross-country team traveled to Nashville to compete in the 2023 ASUN Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28 at Percy Warner Park.

With a final score of 74, the women’s team finished second overall in the thirty-ninth edition of the championship.

Emma Sullivan finished the 5K Race with a time of 17:28:59. She finished eighth overall with an average mile of 05:37:20. She earned Second Team All-Conference honors following this victory.

Along with Sullivan’s achievements, Zoe Smith, Ciara Miles and Faith Bobak earned ASUN Third Team All-Conference honors at the championship. Smith finished 15th in the 5K with a time of 17:38:25. Not far behind her teammate, Miles finished 16th with a time of 17:41:51. Bobak finished with a time of 17:46:62, placing 20th overall.

Earning a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team, Madison Seiler finished 24th with a time of 18:02:90.

“The ladies did a great job of competing hard and executing our race plan. We knew Lipscomb was the favorite and our plan was to race the rest of the conference and not let Lipscomb dictate our plan,” Head Coach Adam Bray said. “We were able to have a handful earn All-Conference honors which was also one of our goals. This is our best team finish since I have been here, and I am really grateful for all the hard work and dedication our athletes have put into this journey.”

As the defending champions of the ASUN Championship, Lipscomb University placed first overall, but the Owls put up a strong fight until the end.

“Super proud of the women and their finish today! Coach Bray and this group of ladies work incredibly hard and are always looking to move our program forward,” Director of Track and Cross Country Cale McDaniel said. “I am very excited to see these ladies continue to push and run at the regional meet in two weeks. This was a great day for our women’s program.”

The Owls are preparing to compete in the NCAA South Regional Championship on Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
