Four long years have come and gone more quickly than I ever imagined. My college experience has certainly been abnormal, as a pandemic being declared during my freshman year was definitely not on my Bingo card, but it was perfect for me. And I owe a great deal of that to The Sentinel.
I have always enjoyed writing and putting my words onto paper came a lot easier to me than speaking. But, I never did much writing on my own time, it was more so just for school-related projects and essays. I found out about The Sentinel in my Sports Information and Media Class (shoutout Professor Gobert) when we had a former KSU student come speak to our class about her job working in social media for Major League Baseball. Someone asked her what she felt like most prepared her for her career and her answer was The Sentinel. She talked a little more about it and instantly, it sparked my interest. So, that very same day, I applied to be a writer for the sports section. After writing several sports stories over the course of the semester, I saw that a position opened up for Engagement Director. I was offered the role and since then have absolutely fallen in love with my position and The Sentinel as a whole.
The Sentinel has given me so much – from writing and media experience to networking opportunities, to some pretty awesome coworkers (they are the best hype men ever!), I am forever indebted to this team, this organization, and this university.
I came into Kennesaw State as a naïve little 18-year-old with no idea what the future would hold for me, and I am leaving as a wiser, more confident woman with a degree that I worked tirelessly for, a full-time job in the sports field, and a soon-to-be wife in about five months (Crazy, right?!)
Always take the risk, never doubt yourself, and experience as much as you can. I am proud to have been apart of The Sentinel, a member of this university, and most importantly, a woman in sports. It’s been an honor and a pleasure.
