On March 26, Track and Field earned a whopping eight wins at the Don McGarey Invitational.
The men and women combined for 357 points to take first place.
Breaking a school record, Eriana Sanford achieved 14.68m (48’02”) to win the shot put event. Landing a toss of 9.00m (62’04”), Tyler Blalock took home the shot put event for the men’s team. In program history, this mark ranks sixth.
In the women’s triple jump, Tayla Moreland jumped 12.51m (41’0.50″) to win. Coming out victorious in the men’s triple jump, Justin Campbell posted a mark of 14.57m (47’9.75′). In the pole vault event, Simon Seid cleared the bar with 5.03m (16’6″). In only a time of 13.72, Corbin McLean won the 100m hurdles.
The women’s 4x400m relay team also came up big. The team consisted of Imani Christian, Britney Chatfield, Kyndall Hudson and Louise Tocays. The team won the 4x400m relay within 3:44.01 which ranks eighth in program history.The men’s 4x400m relay team consisted of Malik Hussie, Sparticus Griffin, Cameron Johnson and Tyriq Hussie completed the relay with a time of 3:11.94, ranking seventh in program history.
Collecting fourth and fifth place in the triple jump, David Olusanya landed a mark of 14.28m (46’10.5″) while Kelvin Campbell landed a leap of 14.26m (46’9.50″). Finishing in 13th place, Ian Jackson recorded a personal best time of 49.89 seconds in the 110m hurdles. In a time of 14.79 seconds, Makai Williams completed fifth in the 110m hurdles. AJ Johnson tied for second in the pole vault after clearing 4.88m (16’0″).
In shot put, Kali Terza earned seventh with a toss of 12.66m (41’6.50″). Mollie Speights took second place after clearing the bar at 1.71m (5’7.25″) in the high jump. Kaylee Brown also cleared the bar at 1.71m (5’7.25″) notching third place due to attempts. In the 100m hurdles, Moreland (14.46 seconds) and Veajah Hylton (14.48 seconds) took fifth and eighth. Completing third in the 800m, Chatfield ran a time of 2:14.24.
“Really proud of our young people this weekend,” KSU Director of Track and Field Cale McDaniel said. “They took every opportunity they got and gave great effort all weekend. We had a lot of new faces getting into the mix and three new school records fall on the women’s side.
“A huge shout out to my staff and our support staff and helping put on an amazing weekend that we can all be proud of,” McDaniel continued. “I work with some truly great people and a weekend like this is a reflection of their efforts. GO OWLS!”
From March 29-April 1 the Owls will be competing in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. In San Marcos, Texas, a separate group of Owls will be competing at the Bobcat Invitational from March 30-April 1.
