Three Oscar nominees to check out

On March 12, the 95th annual Academy Awards were presented, with many of the awards going to “Everything Everywhere All At Once“and “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and while both films were well received, there were many other nominated films that deserve a bit more attention.

Here are three nominated films to watch.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish

After the first “Puss in Boots” film was a bland and standard kids film, “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” had much more effort put into it.

The film takes place when Puss in Boots is down to his last life. When he discovers a wishing star that gives him a chance to get his lives back, he goes on a journey to obtain it.

The film uses a different animation style than most Dreamworks animated films, going instead for a style similar to “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse,” which worked really well for the film. The style gives the film a more energetic feel, which adds to the excitement in certain fight and chase scenes in the film.

Along with the animation, the film manages to have one of the funniest scripts of the year, and with a ton of heart. “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” is a joy to watch from start to finish.

Triangle of Sadness

In terms of “attack the rich” films made in recent years, “Triangle of Sadness” is one of the best. The premise is a group of rich people go on a vacation on a luxury yacht. While traveling on the boat, it crashes, leading to the rich having to survive in the wild.

The two biggest highlights of the film are its acting and its writing. The characters in the film feel very authentic and real, with all the rich people being useless when it comes to practical survival skills.

The film also manages to have a great sense of humor, especially one scene with a grenade and the Marxist speech the captain gives. Overall, “Triangle of Sadness” was one of the best films of 2022.

RRR (Rise Roar Revolt)

The film tells the story of two Indian revolutionaries who become best friends without realizing they are both enemies.

Out of all the films released last year, “RRR” might be the most creative. The film includes elements of drama, comedy, romance, musical and action films.

In addition to this, the film manages to make the whole thing work with all these elements. There are incredibly sad and dramatic moments, along with hilarious moments, insane action moments, beautiful moments and inspiring moments.

The film has a long runtime at three hours and five minutes, but it does not feel nearly that long. The movie flies by, mainly due to its charming leads, incredible dance sequences and action scenes including a scene of a man throwing a jaguar at a British colonialist. Overall, “RRR” is a joy from start to finish.
