The Kennesaw State men’s tennis team went head to head against Gardner-Webb this past Sunday on Betty Siegel Courts, winning 6-1 against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
Against GWU, this marked KSU’s eighth consecutive home win dating back to last season. This win also pinned the Owls’ fourth straight win this season.
The Owls secured its third consecutive win in the series against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
In the match, the Owls collected the doubles point and five singles wins.
In the doubles match, the Owls won with a pair of 7-6 wins on courts one and three. Harvey Conway and Hugo Salmeron competed against GWU’s Numa Lemieux-Monette and Victor Putter. Conway and Salmeron scored 7-6 (7-4) against their competition.
Kevin Patel and Anthony Weingarten also secured their competition by slipping away with their 7-6 (7-2) win against GWU’s John Spring and Cathal Butler.
“All six guys did a really good job of staying focused and just competing and taking care of their courts in singles,” Director of Tennis Matt Emery said.
Seru Tezuka defeated GWU’s Sebastian Harris with a score of 6-4, 6-0 which put KSU ahead of the Runnin’ Bulldogs 2-0. Patel returned to prevail over Lemieux-Monette with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Weingarten won 6-1, 6-4 against Kim Neithammar to clinch another victory for KSU. In three sets, Salmeron pulled a win away with three sets against Alex Lepine following a final score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the set.
David Leon got off to a rough start after losing his opening set, but caught momentum. Leon won his final two sets closing the match with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 10-7 win.
“For whatever the reason, we got off to a very slow start in the doubles but we did a good job of playing with confidence at the end to get the doubles point,”Emery said.
KSU will face Presbyterian at the Betty Siegel Courts on Thursday, February 9 at 2 p.m.
