Men’s and Women’s Track and Field sets records during Bob Pollock Invitational

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Kennesaw State men’s and women’s track and field teams established new school records as they finished the competition at the Bob Pollock Invitational.

Representing the Owls in the 4x400m relay, Malik HussieTyriq HussieChance Cross and Sparticus Griffin ran a time of 3:11.45 to take home seventh place. This marks a school record.

They were not the only students shining this past weekend, however. Specializing in shot put, Courtney Lawrence finished fourth after landing a toss of 18.43m (60’5.75″). Isaiah Rogers and Anthony Harrison were welcomed into the top 10 alongside Lawrence. Rogers threw for 17.49m (57’4.75″) while Harrison marked 17.44m (57’2.75″). The pair finished seventh and eighth.

Justin Campbell finished third following a landed leap of 15.01m (49’3″) in the triple jump.

In the 200m, Owls Cross (21.731 seconds), Aaron Goodwin (21.737 seconds) and Hussie (21.75 seconds) took 15th, 16th and 17th  place. Juan Cavazos IIand Sultan Simms tied for sixth place in the high jump after the duo cleared 2.01m (6’7).

AJ Johnson earned fourth place in the pole vault after he got over the bar at 5.11m (16’9.25) which ranks second in KSU history. That mark ranks second in school history. Simon Seid met Johnson in the top 10 as well as a result of clearing 4.91m (16’1.25) and finishing seventh.

From the women’s team, Sarah Hendrick ranked number three in the NCAA this season and third in program history after winning the 800m with a time of 2:03.51.

Kaylee Brown tied for sixth place post clearing 1.65m (5’6″) in the high jump. In the triple jump, Tayla Moreland ended in fifth when landing a leap of 12.49m (40’11.75″).

In the 4x400m relay, Ansley Guy, Hendrick, Corbin McLean and Kyndall Hudson finished sixth when posting a time of 3:48.81.

“We had a ton of people take a big step forward this weekend at Clemson,” Director of Track and Field Cale McDaniel said. “I’m proud of our young people that continue to stick to and trust our process.”

“Huge congrats to Sarah Hendrick and Caroline Timm for running national level marks in both the 800m and Mile, and the men’s 4x400m sent us home setting a new school record,” McDaniel stated. 

When describing the Owls’ performance at the Bob Pollock Invitational, McDaniel expressed, “I’m especially proud of how happy our team is for one another and the pride they take in continuing to grow this program. We will only get stronger in the coming weeks!”

KSU will be traveling to compete in the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, VA and the Bruce LeHane Scarlet and White Meet in Boston, MA on Feb. 3-4.
