Young the Giant‘s fifth studio album “American Bollywood: Acts III & IV” was released on Oct. 21, 2022, after being on a long hiatus of four years,
The band performed at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on Oct. 29, 2022, one week after the album dropped.
“Four years and hundreds of songs later, ‘American Bollywood’ is finally out in its entirety,” the band’s vocalist Sameer Gadhia, said on his Instagram.
The band has not been very active up until the latest albums were released. However, during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, they started writing something different. This resulted in their song “American Bollywood” which later became the inspiration for their latest albums. Gadhia created this to set out and reclaim his experience as an Indian American.
This year they also released the first parts of the album entitled “American Bollywood: Acts I & II” and now the story is completed.
“It’s about mythology; the power of a story; about brotherhood; redemption,” Gadhia said continuing his Instagram caption. “It’s about the good and evil in all of us. About the country and world, we saw in the mirror of our deep isolation, and our fight to reclaim who we are; who we deserve to be.” He also described how the whole album is also about “identity, belonging, family, sacrifice, love, and mysticism.”
Included with the final part of the album’s release, the band also dropped an official music video to their single “Otherside” which was one of their favorite songs from the album. The lead singer added to his Instagram, “we chose to save it for the last act because we felt it was one of the most poignant songs on ‘American Bollywood.”
Even though the band’s genre is alternative rock, a lot of their songs have a folk and pop sound as well. This attracts many people with a variety of tastes in music.
This new album is perfect for car rides with the windows down or for dancing in your room. This album is also perfect for showing off each of their songwriting abilities and the use of instruments in all of their songs. It ends with the song “Same Folk” which is a nice and calm way to end an album.
The band is known for many popular hits including “Cough Syrup” which appeared on the famous television show “Glee.” They formed in Irvine, California in the year 2004 after the band members dropped out of college to pursue their music careers. Other popular songs include “Mind Over Matter,” “Superposition,” Silvertoungue” and “My Body.”
“American Bollywood: Acts III & IV” and other Young the Giant albums are available for streaming and purchase across all major music platforms.
