James Sabourin named for new Vice President of Marketing and Communications position

On Nov. 2, James Sabourin stepped into the position of Vice President of Marketing and Communications, a newly created role that becomes effective on Jan. 3 of next year.

Before accepting this position, Sabourin worked as Vice President of Communications and University Relations at Louisiana State University for three years. He joins KSU with “more than 30 years of experience in the corporate and higher education sectors,” according to a KSU news release.

“43,000 students. A new president with a focus on culture and student success. A progressive administration. Some of the nation’s finest research,” Sabourin said in a LinkedIn post celebrating the new position. “Two beautiful campuses in the shadow of the north Georgia mountains. And a mascot named Scrappy. What’s not to love?”

Sabourin has also worked with Unum, a Fortune 500 insurance company, for 16 years. His last position for the company was senior vice president of corporate communications. He has also worked as vice president for America West Airlines for three years, which included the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, according to a KSU news release.

“I am pleased to welcome Jim Sabourin to Kennesaw State,” President Kathy Schwaig in a KSU news release said. “Jim is a proven leader with extensive marketing and communications experience in both corporate and higher education. His unique perspective will provide important contributions to support and strengthen KSU’s reputation.”

Sabourin graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in public relations and journalism. He has served as a national chairman for the Public Relations Society of America’s Corporate Communications section as well, according to a KSU news release.

As a member of the president’s cabinet, Sabourin will report directly to Schwaig in matters concerning his position and KSU’s representation. The president’s cabinet is currently made up of 12 other individuals with a vacancy for a vice president of government relations.
