11/8/2022 4:20 p.m.: The 2022 Midterm elections are underway, and in Georgia, there are several races receiving national attention.

The Senate race between Democrat incumbent Raphael Warnock, Republican Herschel Walker and Libertarian Chase Oliver has been watched closely, as the seat could determine which political party controls the Senate moving forward.

In 2020, Warnock won the seat against Republican Kelly Loeffler. He and Senator Jon Ossoff became the first democrats elected to the senate from Georgia since Zell Miller in 2000.

The gubernatorial race between Republican incumbent Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams is also being watched closely. In the 2018 election, Kemp and Abrams both ran with the deciding votes being only 54,723 in Kemp’s favor. Should Abrams win in 2022, she would be the first Democrat governor of Georgia since 2003.
