Veteran coach, Peejay Brun, has joined the Kennesaw State softball staff as an assistant coach, the team announced Friday.
Brun joins an impressive coaching staff consisting of 5th-year head coach Tripp MacKay, former Owl’s outfielder-turned-assistant-coach Brea Dickey and pitching coach Crystal Hampton.
Brun brings loads of experience and accolades to the Owls’ staff. Most recently, Brun concluded a 5-year tenure as head coach of the UT Arlington softball team. At UT Arlington, Brun brought back-to-back 30+ win seasons in her first two years with the Mavericks and led the team to 117 wins.
Prior to her head coaching role at UT Arlington, Brun spent time as an assistant softball coach at Texas State University for eight seasons (2007-2014). She then served as head coach at the University of Hawaii at Hilo for two seasons (2015-2016), before returning to Texas State as an assistant coach until 2018.
During her 2017 stint at Texas State, Brun helped the Bobcats to a notable 42-17 record and an at-large berth to the NCAA College Station Regional.
Over her 20 years of collegiate coaching, Brun has produced 23 NFCA All-Region players, 29 NFCA Academic All-Americans, and 96 all-conference selections.
Before she emerged as a collegiate coach, Brun was the head coach of the 2000 Solvesborg Giant Ants team in Solvesborg, Sweden, and in 2002, coordinated softball for the RBI Organization in Los Angeles, California.
Brun played outfield and catcher at the University of Hawaii and graduated with a degree in music. While playing collegiately, she was named the NCAA Woman of the Year for Hawaii. Brun then went on to play softball professionally for the San Jose Spitfires, where she was named MVP of the 1997 league-championship team. After her professional career, Brun went on to earn her Master’s in physical education administration.
Brun looks to help lead the Owls’ softball team to another successful run, with the season in full swing beginning spring 2023.
The 2023 KSU Softball Schedule has the Owls set to begin the season away at Austin Peay on Mar. 17, 2023 in Clarksville, TN.
