Student charged with sexual battery, kidnapping

March 24th, 2022 Henry Higuita 576

Kennesaw State Police arrested a student on charges of felony kidnapping and misdemeanor sexual battery on March 16, according to a police report on the incident.

The police report stated that Kenan Black, 19, forced the victim into a restroom on the first floor of the Math and Statistics Building on the Kennesaw Campus and touched her without her consent on March 15 at 3:45 p.m. The victim is also a KSU student.

Although the police report stated that Black was arrested on March 16, Tammy DeMel, Assistant Vice President of Strategic Communications at KSU, said otherwise. DeMel asserted that Black was arrested off-campus and transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on March 17.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Black was also released from jail March 17 on a $25,000 bond.

“The Kennesaw State University Police led the investigation into the reported incident and concluded, based on information established during the investigation, that an alert to the broader campus community was not necessary because there was not a serious or continuing threat to campus,” DeMel said. “The health and safety of students, faculty and staff is of the utmost importance and the university will continue to use all resources and methods available to ensure a secure and welcoming campus.”

As of this article’s publication, KSU has not announced the incident to the student body. This story is developing and will be updated here as more information is discovered.
