Men’s tennis extinguishes Liberty Flames in victory

March 22nd, 2022 Lanaya Daniels 15

Kennesaw State University’s men’s tennis team prevailed over Liberty University in a 4-1 victory on March 19.

KSU now holds a season record of 9-4 and 1-0 in the ASUN Conference play.

Both the singles and doubles matches were dominated by the Owls.

In the doubles match, Harvey Conway and Raul Garcia garnered a 6-2 win against their Flames opponents. The match took place on court three where KSU proved to be stiff competition.

On court one, Hugo Salmeron and Matthew Terry were in their doubles match. Despite being down early, Salmeron and Terry came back to win their match against Christiaan Worst and Deji Thomas-Smith of the Flames. The match results were 6-4. Salmeron and Terry were successfully able to score a point for the Owls.

In the singles match, Garcia was able to put the Owls on top by securing a point. The match resulted in a score of 6-2, 6-3 victory over Josh Wilson.

On court six, Salmeron earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over the Flames’ Goncalo Ferreira. The competition tightened as Liberty torched KSU’s lead to 3-1. Terry smoothly defeated the Flames’ opportunity to complete a comeback, defeating opponent Nicaise Muambe. The result of this match was 6-3, 7-5 which led the Owls to victory.

“Proud of the guys today,” Director of Tennis Matt Emory said. “I thought it was a great team effort across the board. Liberty has a pretty good team, so we knew it wouldn’t be an easy win today. I’m proud of the guys for stepping up and taking care of business.”

The Owls will head to Florida for several away games against North Florida on March 25, Stetson on March 27 and FGCU on April 3 before returning home against Jacksonville State on April 8.
