The Kennesaw State Department of Sports and Recreation offers numerous activities and amenities for students to use.
Holding a gym, indoor soccer field and indoor lap pool, the department is waiting for students to utilize all their benefits. Both the Kennesaw and Marrietta Campuses have Sports and Recreation Departments, each located at different facilities.
Aquatics, Club Sports, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Adventures and Owl Fit are just a few of the things offered by the Department of Sports and Recreation.
For those interested in Aquatics, pools on both campuses are available. “Indoor lap pools are available on both Kennesaw and Marietta campuses and an outdoor leisure pool at the Kennesaw Campus,” Brittany Booth, Assistant Director of marketing and member services, said. This service offers students to learn to swim or perfect their skills with trained instructors.
For those interested in Club Sports, KSU Club Sports currently serves over 1,800 athletes in more than 30 clubs. “Through participation in the program, students have the opportunity to travel to compete against other universities,” Booth said.
“The Intramural Sports program provides students, faculty and staff an opportunity for competition in a friendly, sportsman-like environment,” Booth said. “There are Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec leagues consisting of a regular season and playoff period.”
“Outdoor Adventures provides the KSU community with access to outdoor pursuits and activities,” Booth said. “These programs offer recreation and educational opportunities for all—novice to expert. Programs and services include bike shop, climbing gym, nature bound trips, experiential group programs and outdoor equipment rentals.”
“OwlFit programs offer personal training and group fitness classes,” Booth said. She added that students can “workout with nationally certified instructors and trainers to help motivate, educate and inspire” them during their time at KSU.
Students who live on campus have access to The Department of Sports and Recreation, which is included in their tuition fees. Online students can also opt-in to a membership for $97 per semester.
The Department of Sports and Recreation hosts many events throughout the year, some include indoor triathlons, speed climbing and Glow in the Dark Zumba.
The Owls Nest, The Perch and The Dr. Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center arelocated on the Kennesaw Campus, while The Recreation and Wellness Center is located on the Marrietta Campus.
Although there is a full-time staff that runs the department, there are also opportunities for student employment. The Department of Sports and Recreation employs close to 200 students. “We are looking for energetic, dependable and reliable students to help facilitate the programs and services we offer,” said Booth.
Students interested in employment in this department can contact the Department of Sports and Recreation for more information.
