The Kennesaw State Owls outscored the Fairfield Stags by a total of 10 runs through the three games on Feb. 25 and 26, earning their highest point differential for a series this season.
During the double-header on Saturday, there were a combined 25 hits in 14 innings of baseball.
Graduate student Cash Young made the most of his hits in the second game with a 2-run HR, in the fifth inning, sparking a six-run inning for the Owls. This is his second home run this season.
The pitching rotation started with junior Connor Housley contributing to the teams’ success with the Owls only allowing a single run for Fairfield in the second game to help them to a 9-1 victory. Though he did not get the start, sophomore Brayden Eidson would get his first win of the season during this game.
The first game of the Saturday doubleheader was not as easy of a win for the Owls, but senior John Bezdicek secured the win for his team while junior Luke Cooper received his first save of the season. Sophomore Zac Corbins’ 2 RBIs in this game helped the Owls to a 4-3 victory with Fairfield’s late scoring showing not enough to steal the win.
The Owls have proven that this team is on a mission this season by starting 7-1 on the year when at this point last season they were 5-3. With their 7-1 record the Owls also have their best start to a season in their D-1 history.
The Owls look to continue their record start and continue their four-game win streak when they head into a long road trip starting with a three-game series against Troy beginning on March 4.
