Love is amazing, but it can also be difficult and can require a lot of compromise. Sentinel writer and editor Lindsey answered some student questions about love. Photo taken by Emma Eagle.

Q: I feel like I am “too much” for potential partners. How do I overcome that?

A: Dear Reader,

Overcoming this dilemma has nothing to do with your potential partners and everything to do with you. The first step is accepting the fact that you will never be “too much” for the person who is truly meant for you. Your mindset can be shifted around an entire situation like this by simply changing the way you speak to yourself. The things that make you “too much” are also the things that make you unique and make you perfect for the person who is perfect for you. If you ever catch yourself feeling this way, look in the mirror and say, “The opinions of those who think I am too much mean too little to affect me.” Changing your thought process from “I am too much” to “They are not enough for me” will allow you to see who is right for a place in your life as a partner and will redirect your thoughts to encourage more self-love.

If anyone ever makes you feel like you are too much, that is your red flag. One of my favorite creators on Instagram and TikTok, Tinx declares “hold a funeral” for situations like this. This means that when someone makes you feel like you are too much, you should hold a funeral for the situation. Process the relationship, grieve it, sort through the items (physical or metaphorical) left behind and move on. You deserve more than someone who will make you feel like they cannot handle you.

Q: Where can I meet people?

A: Dear Reader,

This was our most asked question. You can meet people everywhere, especially on campus. Kennesaw State has over 300 Registered Student Organizations and many more clubs. If you see anything that interests you, it is worth checking out a meeting or event just to see if you connect with anyone in attendance. Like I told the above reader, meeting people depends entirely on you. Are you in a place where you are ready to put yourself out there and meet someone? If so, great! If not, you may need to take some time to do some self-reflection on the why. This could be a multitude of reasons. Is your self-esteem in a good place? Are you suffering from social anxiety? Working through a list of reasons why you could be in your way can lead to a fresh perspective on yourself and your interactions with potential partners. Putting yourself out there is a scary thing, and as cliché as it sounds, the first step is always the hardest. Even if you just attend one event, you have made your first scary step toward meeting people!
