Kennesaw State’s Police Department arrested a 23-year-old man in the East Parking Deck Thursday, Feb. 13, after receiving a call that there was a suspicious man with a firearm in the parking deck.
At around 4:30 p.m. that day, KSUPD arrested Kennesaw resident Grant Dier after finding a handgun, ammunition and a knife in his possession, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. KSUPD had their guns drawn as they approached Dier.
Dier was arrested in East Deck and brought to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he faces two felony charges of carrying weapons within a school safety zone.
KSUPD Officer Billy Greer was among the officers that apprehended Dier as he was stuffing a black duffel bag under a red minivan not belonging to him.
Dier allowed officers to search the duffel bag, which had a handgun, an empty magazine, five bullets, three empty shell casings and a folding knife with a blade longer than two inches, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Dier told KSUPD he had purchased the knife that Wednesday and was excited to have it.
KSUPD and the Cobb County Police Department were alerted of Dier at about 3 p.m. that day. Both departments received calls about “a shirtless, suspicious man wearing a baseball cap and carrying a black duffel bag who possibly had a firearm and was possibly discharging rounds off near Barrett Lakes Drive in Kennesaw,” according to the MDJ.
Georgia law states that individuals cannot possess a knife with a blade of two or more inches within a school safety zone or school property, according to Justia.com.
Dier was released from Cobb County jail Monday, Feb. 17, on a $5,720 bond, jail records show.
