Meet the new opinion editor

Hello everyone.

My name is Ayla McGinnis I am a sophomore political science major and history minor. I have been writing for the opinion section of the Sentinel since the Fall 2019, but I have been writing otherwise as long as I can remember.

The goal this semester for the opinion section is to give students the chance to write about topics they are passionate about, as well as empowering student voices that are so valuable on our university’s campus.

What initially attracted me about the Sentinel was the platform it provides for students, and the opportunity to stay involved on campus. I found, however, that more than anything my job as a staff writer gave me the space to develop my writing skills and stay aware of the world around me. As an editor, I can only hope to provide other writers with this opportunity and continue to grow myself.

After graduating from Kennesaw State, I plan to attend graduate school and eventually teach history at the collegiate level. Currently, if I am not doing homework or writing for the Sentinel, I am usually found waiting tables, listening to the news or, preferably, snuggling with my kitten, Beans.
