Committee to oversee student technology fee funds

Kennesaw State recently introduced the Student Technology Fee Advisory Committee, which will review technology purchases funded by student technology fees.

The Office of the CIO announced the new committee in an email to faculty and staff on Oct. 29, stating that the committee will start to review and vote on proposals for technology projects and purchases funded by student technology fee funds that are not already allocated for “regular lifecycle replacement of existing classroom and academic facility technologies essential for instruction.”

Annual expenditures funded by student technology fees include classroom and lab technology lifecycle replacement, software renewals and hardware maintenance relating to student classrooms and labs and salaries for personnel that directly support students, according to the committee’s website.

Any remaining funds must be requested and will be brought under consideration of the STFAC. KSU faculty and staff can find the request form on the STFAC’s website.

“The STFAC is comprised of student and faculty leaders operating with a charge to provide transparency, efficiency, and equity in the process of funding university technology purchases and projects using student technology fee funds,” the email states.

Dr. Nicholas Clegorne, associate professor of educational leadership and higher education, serves as the chair of the committee. President of the Student Government Association Matthew Hunnicutt, Chief Information Officer Dr. Jeff Delaney and Executive Director of IT Operations Cheryl Hassman all also serve on the committee.

Four other students currently also serve as members on the committee, including SGA Vice President Masood Abdul Salam.

According to the website, the committee will meet twice in the fall semester and twice in the spring semester. Their first meeting was held in September and their next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7.
