The soundtrack to “TROMA’S WAR,” a 1980’s cult-action classic film, was remastered by a Kennesaw composer and released on vinyl on July 4, 2017.
Chris DeMarco, the composer of the soundtrack, has remastered the original score at Dreamco Music Studio located in Kennesaw. It has been released in collaboration with two independent record labels: Ship to Shore PhonoCo, in New York, and Locked Groove Recording Co., in Colorado.
DeMarco says remastering the soundtrack with new technology that was not previously available while composing the original score adds a deeper intricacy to the music.
“I love it because with the technology available now, I was able to bring out more depth in the soundtrack than the original possessed,” DeMarco said. “I was also able to remaster pieces that had not been included in the film.”
According to DeMarco’s website, the complete motion picture score includes cuts not used in the final film and was released on 140-gram red and orange “Triumphant Explosion” colored vinyl. The vinyl is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide.
The idea to remaster the original soundtrack came from former employees of Troma Production.
DeMarco said he was contacted by Chris Lanphear, a former employee at Troma Production and a fan of “TROMA’S WAR,” regarding obtaining a copy of the original soundtrack. Lanphear then contacted Justin Martell and Aaron Hamel, who also formerly worked for Troma Production and are currently the co-founders of Ship to Shore PhonoCo, a record company for the purpose of releasing cult film soundtracks.
“They were enthusiastic, and a deal was struck for me to remaster the tapes for the album,” DeMarco said.
A press release by Dreamco Music Studio said DeMarco recently attended a screening of the film at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn, New York, accompanied by the director of the film, Lloyd Kaufman, record company representatives and a few of the film’s cast members.
Following the screening, DeMarco participated in a Q&A session and signed several copies of the new album.
“I’ve received nothing but great feedback,” DeMarco said.
A signed copy of the limited edition, collectible vinyl can be purchased at DeMarco’s website.
DeMarco says there are no signing events currently planned at Dreamco Music Studio, but concludes that if fans of the soundtrack are interested, he would be happy to come to KSU for an organized album signing.
