Kennesaw State University improves to 8-2 overall on the season after defeating Presbyterian College 45-10 on Saturday, Nov. 12.
A high-scoring offense and a solid defensive performance were again huge factors for the Owls’ victory.
KSU received the opening kickoff and only needed four plays to reach the end zone. Senior running back Chaston Bennett put the Owls on the board first with a 47-yard touchdown.
Head coach Brian Bohannon was pleased with the fast starts from the offense.
“It’s a goal of ours, especially offensively, to score on the first drive of each half and try to get that momentum going,” Bohannon said. “We were fortunate to come out the gates flying around pretty good offensively and defensively. To get 14 points on the board pretty quick, I think that helps with the momentum of the football team.”
Four seconds before the half, redshirt sophomore quarterback Chandler Burks connected with red-shirt sophomore wide receiver Justin Sumpter for a touchdown to take a 24-3 lead.
Bohannon was impressed with Sumpter’s receiving ability in the red zone.
“He caught two of them: one was out of bounds, the other was in bounds,” Bohannon said. “It’s good to see him do that. He has been doing that all year. He’s a big, strong wideout.”
The Owls continued their offensive scoring in the third quarter, capitalizing a seven-play, 81-yard drive with a 46-yard pass from Burks to wide receiver Xavier Harper for a touchdown.
Burks finished the afternoon with six completions for 169 passing yards and three touchdowns. Burks also ran for 119 yards on 20 attempts.
KSU is undefeated on the road this year, but the Owls’ most important game of the season is still ahead. They take on Charleston Southern University Saturday, Nov. 19, when they battle for a share of the Big South Conference title.
