After returning home this week from Furman University in South Carolina, the Owls football team will welcome Missouri Science and Technology to the Nest on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Missouri S&T Miners are located in Rolla, Missouri, currently competing in 13 sports at the Division II level in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The team finished its season last year with an overall record of 5-5.
The Miners are coming into Saturday’s game averaging 38 points and 383 yards per game. A well-balanced offense is something the Owls will have to be aware of as the Miners average 138.8 yards on the ground and 244.2 through the air.
Missouri S&T also produces points in the red zone, going 20-22 with 15 of those conversions being touchdowns. The Miners defense is also stout, forcing 15 turnovers on the season and only allowing 24.8 points per game.
KSU has spent the last two weeks on the road and should be eager to get back home for a two-game home stand.
The Owls have no shortage of offense, averaging 38.5 points per game while holding opponents to just over 23 points in each game. KSU’s rushing offense has carried the team this season, rushing for over 1,100 yards.
Injuries to the quarterbacks have slowed down the Owls this year but haven’t stopped them. Three of the four QBs listed on the depth chart have been used this season, but their success could be attributed to the offensive line. Red-shirt sophomore wide receiver Justin Sumpter has 468 yards during the first four games.
The upcoming match between KSU and Missouri S&T will be the first between the two schools. This game will continue the Owls’ non-conference schedule — KSU will not see its first Big South Conference opponent until Oct. 15 at home against Liberty University.
