The Office of Student Advocacy at Kennesaw State University presented Dear World during the Week of Welcome on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Dear World is a traveling organization that takes photos of people’s life stories or messages. Participants have the opportunity to write a message to the world on their bodies with marker.
Dear World was first created in New Orleans shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. The organization traveled and asked people to write a love message to their city on their bodies.
Jonah Evans is the executive producer of Dear World and has taken over 50,000 photos around the world.
“The message changed from a local voice to a global one,” Evans said.
Dear World’s visit to KSU coincided with events meant to welcome new students to the university during the first week of school.
“Having [Dear World] during Week of Welcome would highlight the university’s diversity and inclusion,” said Nicole Phillips, the director of the Office of Student Advocacy.
The photos were compiled into a slideshow and presented at an event Tuesday night. Evans and Phillips chose six students to talk about the message they wrote on their bodies.
Dear World and the Office of Student Advocacy hope this event will bring KSU students closer together.
