The Office of Diversity and Inclusion has launched a website where students can report instances of bias found on the Kennesaw State campuses.
The website‘s goal is for students to report bias, which it defines as “prejudice in favor or against a person or group that can be considered unfair and based on harmful assumptions and/or stereotypes.”
The site also informs readers on what bias is, how to spot it and how to report it.
The new website comes a year after an incident with a KSU advisor. In May 2015, Abigail Dawson, an advisor for the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Management, accused a student of harassment while he waited for a meeting with another advisor. Bruce recorded the altercation on his phone and posted it to social media, sparking the hashtag #itsbiggerthanKSU.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion previously had another site which served as a resource for students, faculty and staff to learn about interpersonal violence, which encompasses sexual assault and harassment, domestic violence, stalking and sexual exploitation. It offers information about these various topics, including how to report and take care of one’s self after an incident.
The office challenges students to become more accepting and inclusive in a diverse community by teaching students to understand and respect other’s personal experiences as well as their own.
Students, staff and faculty who spot bias-related incidents may report it online or contact the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at 470-578-2614.
