Hundred Handed is a band of three men from Los Angeles, and “…Like It’s Saturday” is their debut EP. They’re currently on a tour of the U.S. to promote this album, and I was lucky enough to get a preview of it.
The first track on the EP, “Love Me Like the Weekend” gives me “beachy” vibes. It feels like a fun day at the beach with friends. The background music at times reminds me of the 1975, but Jordan McGraw’s low voice during the verses is calming yet alluring in a very original way.
“She Was the One” seems to be the perfect song for a montage in a romantic comedy. The lyrics describe the elusive “one who got away” in that vague way that all songwriters have mastered, allowing the listener to apply the song to their own lost love. It makes it a relatable anthem for everyone who’s ever missed someone.
When I first listened to “Heroes (In The Dark)” I immediately pictured a nighttime bonfire singalong. McGraw’s voice is truly showcased in this track, and the harmonies that accompany him create the feeling of dozens of voices singing in unison. When this band makes it big, I can definitely see this song becoming an anthem for their fans.
Between its provocative title and McGraw’s falsetto, “I Feel Like Sex” manages to be sexy and fun at the same time. It’s reminiscent of music by DNCE with its upbeat rhythm and amusing lyrics. I feel like the song is truly about feeling genuinely good through whatever makes the listener feel that way.
So far, Hundred Handed has only released the first two tracks on the EP, but they will be playing all four songs during their tour. Lucky for us Georgia folk, the band will be making a stop at The Masquerade July 17, and tickets are still available online.
