Introducing a new era for The Sentinel

I have been with The Sentinel for three years now. My byline went from “Contributor” to “Staff Writer” in the early days when I had just enrolled at Kennesaw State.

Then it was “News Editor,” and I spent three semesters managing writers and trying to stay on top of all the changes at our university.

“Editor-in-chief” is a new title for me, and it feels so strange to see it next to my name on the page. I’m so honored and thrilled to be able to lead our staff into the upcoming school year. This is an exciting time for The Sentinel for a multitude of reasons.

First, our 50th birthday is coming up! In October, we will hit our half-century anniversary, and we will celebrate by reflecting on the last 50 years. There will be events on both campuses and fun facts printed in the paper every week. We will have contests on our social media, so be sure to follow us to keep up!

Second, we want this birthday to really mean something for us. We want to see change and progression toward a dynamic newspaper that delivers the information you need and want to your hands, your cellphone, your Twitter feed and every other facet we can find.

In pursuit of this goal, The Sentinel is changing the way we run a lot of things, and there are so many ways to be a part of this awesome transition. We are hiring a few new positions and looking for plenty of writers and reporters right now. We also have a huge photo project that will require plenty of experienced and aspiring photographers to complete.

Look for more information about these and other opportunities to join The Sentinel on our website, www.ksusentinel.com, or find us handing out newspapers across campus Wednesday mornings with free coffee.

So, if you’re new here, welcome to KSU! Go Owls, good luck getting a parking space, and enjoy the hammocks on The Green. If you’re an old-timer, expect new and great things from The Sentinel, your No. 1 source for news and information about your college campus.
