Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper come together for this 2014 romantic drama directed by Susanne Bier. The film is set in North Carolina during the Depression Era and focuses on a newlywed couple played by Lawrence and Cooper. Ironically, the film itself feels a little depressing. With such big actors as the major stars in the film, I was expecting more. Unfortunately, it’s hard to shake off the previous films Lawrence and Cooper have done together.
The film is very choppy and the editing seems to jump back and forth, the script seemed forced and there are just too many filming mistakes. The plot is a little uneven. There are times when the film makes sense, but other times when it is all over the place. The only redeeming factor from this film is the amazing cinematography. The scenes are amazing, the sets were well-made and the location in which the film was shot is very beautiful. However, it does not make up for the fact that this star-studded film falls flat. I have been previously impressed with the other films Lawrence and Cooper have done together, and know they will continue to make movies together that will be successful. However, this was certainly not one of them.
