SGA Holds Student Services Fair

On March 26, SGA held their Student Services Fair as part of SGA Month. The event had 32 student service groups including KSU Relay, Sigma Tau Delta, Feed the Future, and the Career Services Center.

The various groups at the fair each had their chance to stand up and tell the students what they can do for them and how they can get more information.

Among the most exciting presentations was from KSU Swing Dance Association. They stood up and taught anyone who was interested some basic swing dancing steps.

Other groups announced upcoming events like Sigma Tau Delta’s Literary Festival on April 23-26 from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. each day, and the KSU Relay, which begins on April 13 at 7:00 p.m. and ends April 14 at 7:00 a.m.

Others, like the Kennesaw Pride Alliance talked about their purpose. The alliance sets out to create a safe welcoming group of friends for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual students and promote safe sex. The Pride Alliance opens itself to everyone, including straight students.

Several of the groups handed out free giveaways, including SGA who raffled off some of their new “We Bleed Gold” t-shirts.

The event had several live performances, including a fantastic group called Campus Awakening, a hip-hop gospel group on campus who made quite an impression on the other groups at the event. Many students stood up and moved along with their music. Also this week, in SGA’s general session on April 5 they voted on the new change to the Student Code of Conduct, which was that rather than simply stating that the sale use and/or possession of controlled substances was prohibited, they expanded it to include that “smoking, ingesting, or otherwise using a substance already prohibited by the preceding sentence in a manner not consistent with the manufacturer’s recommended use is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, all forms of synthetic marijuana, regardless of brand name.”

The majority vote was that yes, the Student Code of Conduct for Fall 2012 would include these changes.
